So i was washing my car and i noticed that the panel that lies above the side windows look abit wavy...I want to know if this is common on g bodys or is it due to body flex??? Took some pics of it against the light so its visible. Its only visible at this angle.

The top creases are straight but why would this happen? Or was it like this from factory?

That's pretty common, Im sure flex has a bit to do with it but the body work done at the factory was very poor quality compared to newer cars.

I agree with 81 Regal as well.
This is a problem area on G bodies to begin with, but let me ask you this: has the car ever been repainted, possibly before you owned it?
If so, it's possible the bodywork wasn't done correctly before the repaint.
There's also a good possibility it was a half vinyl roof car, and the conversion to a hard top was done before paint. That's a difficult area to get right with filler when converting to hardtop.
(I'm a former bodyman, and did the conversion to a hardtop on mine, that's how I know).
That's what it looks like to me, anyways.

Thats sort of a releif lol. I thought it was just my car. As far as i know this car was never repainted it has black on all jambs and corners. No signs of vinyl roof either. In fact all the badges that go on the side are there, I just dicided not to put them back on. The paint is not up to par so it makes me believe its a factory paint job. So when it comes time to do the body work what do you guys think I should do? Gold body filler is what im thinking. It sucks that GM didn't put more time into making one of their last beautiful classics.

that area is lead filled, so when the body filler went over the lead and they see heat they will actually look different at different times

Your car may have come white or a light color from the factory. With white those ripples would not be as noticeable or maybe not noticeable at all
