87 Cutlass Supreme 442 Vin: 9 all stock

Checked fuel lines, put in new fuel pump, new fuel filter, had air compression check, there are no vacuum leaks, no cracked heads. I feel as if I have checked all except the carb. Before I get a rebuild or a new carb are there any other things that could cause the car to bog? Seems like a fuel delivery problem to me. It also has a real cold crank. Also, what would be the best carb to get for this 307 if I did have to get one?

Help, im twenty one, trying to learn as much as possible!!!

The first thing you should have checked was the carb by rebuilding it.
It needs a rebuild, accelerator pump is no good, easy fix...
Also, you can't just go and slap on an Edlebrock thinking it will solve your problems.
Your fuel ratio will be off causing poor gas milage (Qjets were factory tuned for these engines) and if you run rich you will wind up with gas in your oil and thus cause excessive engine ware. You will also lose function of your lockup in your trans and you will also have to change out the distributor for a vacuum advance and buy a kickdown setup, rewire your AC pressure relay etc...
Best to just rebuild the carb you have and be done with it.
Get a gallon of carb cleaner, soak it over the weekend, blast it out with air and put it back together the way you took it apart... if you need a little help send it out to get rebuilt by several good vendors out there, will cost you around $300 but it will be replated and properly rebuilt, look basically new.
Google search... Quadrajet carburetor rebuild

Awesome, I'm going to try both suggestions. I'm just not too all trusting of these SC upstate mechanics lol.
Hopefully my timing isn't off, I hear that's quite expensive. I'm a broke college student. It would also be cool if you guys could send some cash along with you all's expertise.

Timing is actually one of the cheapest and easiest things to check/do. Ground out the ECM with a paperclip in the proper terminals ( or just unplug the connector to the distributor ), and hook your timing light up to the battery and #1 spark plug wire. It don't get any cheaper or easier than that!

I would get a quality rebuild done on your stock carb if I were you.

Get a rebuild kit for $25 and have at it, just be careful not to scratch or over torque anything.
I've rebuilt a few carbs in College, it's not too difficult, just don't do it while drinkin beer

Bogging. My very FIRST item to check is the fuel. Fuel filter, fuel pump, carburator. There is where your problems lies. Most likely carburator adjustment or rebuild, or replacement.

Edit: Also you can check the local classifieds and ebay and you could find a good carter qjet for a good price too.
Example: US $189.95

Hey dude, If you get a bog when you mashed the pedal to the floor, I have solved the problem on mine and it takes 2 seconds to fix.

you need a screw driver and allen key to tighten the 2 big rear flaps on the carburator (spring loaded). Its opening too fast giving you too much air when you floor it, especially on 305s, 307s, small motors. These rear flaps must be significantly stiffer to eliminate the bog when mashing the pedal. 8)

Hope this Helps. BUT!- if the blog happens when you are already on the floor wide open and it bogs out going through the gears, there is a fuel problem. the fuel is hot, or most likely its starving for fuel - and if your not cooling the fuel anyway, it'll cool more by sending more flow. Not nessary more PSI, but more volume of fuel. But too much volume can cause turbulance in a 'stock' Q-jet (dont think a basic rebuild the carb will solve it, been there and done it). Both kinds of bogs where my biggest problem, now running a much better holley pump, and tall aluminum intake and carb spacer to try and keep everything cool. some NHRA racers running 'stock' classes have lots of money in the class that requires q-jets. To fix this, you could jet the living sh*t out of it for crazy fuel flow like I did, she'll rip , but forget having any kind of decent fuel mileage.. Anyways, try tightening the rear flaps on the carb for a non-bog launch!
Good luck,

don't tighten the secondary air valves too tight or you'll get a delay opening the secondaries..just turn the screw 1/4 turn at a time and then test it.
