hi im bryan I have a 84 buick reegal limited as of right now it still has the stock 10 bolt rear end a th350 trans with a mild shift kit and a mildly enhanced chevy small block 350 eventually I want it to b strictly a drag car so first to go will b the rear end but I don't have 3000 jst sitting around to put in a ford 9'' lol so was wondering if any of u wuld have an idea of what vehicle I need to look for that has a stock posi rear end that is round a 3.42 or 3.73 gear ratio or bigger even and will b a bolt in rear end with no cutting or fabricating of any sort or if there is one at all. otherwise help me find the cheapest route for a fabricated bolt in rear end along with cheapest route on a motor build with atleast 400hp that can handle alil liquid cocaine. also am lookin g to git rid of the shifter on the steering column and go with a floor shifter and trans brake

For a stronger bolt in rear, most folks look for an 8.5 rear from a Buick GN or Olds 442 G-body. They would be a direct bolt in replacement if you also get the driveshaft, and come with either 3.42 or 3.73(442). Otherwise, your current driveshaft would have to be shortened 1". Posi was an option on these rears, so you want to look for that as well.

If you would settle for a 7.5", a lot of the Monte Carlo SS's came with a 7.5" Posi, and 3.42 or 3.73 that would bolt right in. Its just who knows how long she'll last on the strip.

A friend of mine has a 8.5 with the 3.73 posi that he is selling for $1100. I am sure he will ship it anywhere.

U guys are alot of help will b making a parts run to the slavage yard soon for a 400 SBC to build for my mud truck but I'm guessing the rear end I'd b looking for wit 3.73 posi that's bolt in would b a 12 bolt wit 8.5 correct me if I'm wrong would b some help to know what I'd number to look for to narrow down gear ratio and for posi ... thanks for the offer but 1100 is alil out a y price right now still have a stroker to build for car want around 500 HP witout a bottle but a motor like that's gunna b runnin me around 4000 as is lol

Your not going to find a 12 bolt ready to go and bolt in for $1100. No 12 bolt is a bolt in and go deal unless your talking aftermarket. The 8.5 is a 10 bolt and a direct bolt in IF its from a GN, H/O, or 442. They can handle some serious power. I plan on using a relatively stock behind my 496.

This is what you are looking for and the price is low....You will be hard pressed to find one cheaper in your area and my guess is that the salvage yards will laugh at you when you ask if they have a 442/GN rear on hand. This one will not last long

Your not likely to find a gbody ready 10 bolt 8.5 in the junkyard-you probably wont even find a car that had one in the junkyard and there is not a factory 12 bolt that fits a gbody. Good luck on your search. There is an ad in the for sale section that is a gbody 8.5 and its in California.
