Optis get a bad rap. My 92 Corvette was sold at 128K with the original on it, and my 94 Roadmaster donor at 150K still had a GM Opti on it, presumed to be the original from the slime on it.

Get one into the hands of people that put off cooling system repairs (or my buddy Dave that like to wash the engine weekly at the 1000PSI car washes), and it's a crapshoot for lifespan.

My buddy had a '93 40th anniversary 'Vette and never had issues with it. I ended up replacing the upper end of the engine around 120k miles to upgrade to LT4 specs, with the GM HOT cam kit, headers, t-body, etc. We put a new opti on then simply because it was all apart. This would've been around 2000 give or take.

In the past month the local Pull a Part has put out two G bodies, both Cutlasses. I was able to cut the trunk floor out of one for my fuel tank swap, trunk light and popper, radiator top plate (for sell), and some parts for Turna.
Then a week ago I pulled the quarter glass out of the hardtop car to keep as spares. Damn thing had almost mint interior plastics the first time I saw the car, came back a week later and some jackass destroyed most of it! There were still some decent parts left, but I was out of time. Said windows...

Junkyards can be fun or a PITA. Most of the ones in my area are mud pits and one stacks cars on top of each other making it impossible to access parts. You do have to be careful in junkyads as I cut my palm wide open once on a broken antenna, it was a waterfall of blood and I had to drive home one handed. Took a month for it to heal.

JYs are good sources for even just odds and ends like fasteners, speciality fasteners, clips, fuses, vacuum fittings, etc. Also can find stuff like USB adaptors and other auto accessories. Even found non auto stuff like a mint in wrapper fancy soap and shampoo set and a plastic 55 gallon drum that became a Halloween decoration.

I had a scalp-line wart. Bumped my head on a door frame, and it was surgically removed. Healed like it was never there.

The yard can be good for you!

Maybe I can get lucky enough to lop off my goiter.
