Maybe the tide was running out? That was quite a wake...thought those guys were doing to ditch sideways right up to the moment it reached the bow bumper!
 
Steve were you watching me back in the 80's? That is exactly how I did it with my old 17' Winner. Unfortunately the trailer wasn't galvanized and submerging it like that killed it for good. Nowadays I just get the tail end in the water and walk down the tongue and pull the boat close enough to hook the bow eye up to the winch strap and crank it the rest of the way. It's easy because I bolted some 6" wide extruded aluminum swimming pool top rails to the tongue and made a small platform to stand on. As my father-in-law used to say, "Ve get too soon oldt, unt too late schmart!".
 
Mark, maybe someone video taped you and that taught these guys how to do it. I apologize for thinking that this would be something new for you...😀
