I purchased another engine and trans for cutlass yesterday. Paid $50 for all. Its a 1969 - 1970 Olds 455. 396021F with C heads. the motor is seized (maybe couldn't turn it by hand, didnt think i would be able) it is a very interesing motor, it has a 3" full length header on right side of engine and a 2" short header on the other. it also has a single plain intake with a absolutely tiny Rochester JET 2, i think it was originally paired on a tri power? the trans, i ran out of daytime to properly identify it. all i know is it is a 4 speed automatic.

i talked him down from $800 to$50. Did i get a good deal? this engine needs alot of work. What is the engine worth?

even if you strip it an sell the intake and carb you can make your $50 back- If the trans is a 4 speed, maybe a 2004R or did they make a 700R4 for BOP motors? I am not sure. Pictures would help.

Man you did some TALKING :!: 800-50 bucks, thats some talkin.
Gbarrie.
Thats some Pawn Star sh*t right there :shock: For $50 you cant go wrong you could probly get that for scrapping it.

I take it i made a good deal. im glad to hear that, i was dreading that this thing could possibly be a nightmare to fix and super costly.
Monday i will have pictures for everyone. That is when i am going to pick it up to bring to my college to work on, thats the plan anyway.(i needed an engine hoist to it pick up) three of use guys, we thought we are all in good shape we can lift this on to the back of the truck, oh hell no :lol: , we couldn't even get it to move off the ground... at all.

The trans. i dont think it was a 700R4, it only has 12 or 11 bolts on the pan, Doesnt 700r4 have 16?
I also dug a little deeper into what is on the engine. It has a W-30 2barrel intake( i took it off,looked to be in really good shape)

the intake and carburator i will be selling, possibly the headers(dont know what they are yet) i want a four barrel... also one of the perks of being a wyotech student, i can have the entire engine bascily cleaned in the hot tank for free at the shop.

No kidding, with a little Fast N Load Richard Rollins thrown in...I thought I did good when I got my complete 200-4R for $60 and I know it needs a total rebuild

If it is a 4-speed auto it may be a 200-4R (check the pan - at first glance it looks like it has a main pan and a secondary little pan). For $50 for the whole shebang the gears are probably:

1 = yeah right
2 = you're joking right
3 = F'd Up
OD = see 1 - 3

Being a Wyo-tech student gives you complete access to a full machine shop, plus professional evaluation of the engine and trans.
You can't beat that with a stick. Don't feel bad about the $50.00 you spent, you did very well. Don't even look back. :wink:

It most likely is a 200-4R trans. If I'm not mistaken, Oldsmobile had produced a 4-spd hydromatic back in the '60's.
But I'm sure it's not one of those transmissions.

What kind of car was this engine pulled out of?

The gentleman i bought it from is a classmate of mineand he said that when he was out in his barn he found this engine and transmission. he asked his dad what it was ,he told him that one of the previous renters of the property had a 69 W-30 442 and he beleived it was a 455,said he could sell it. it sat there in the barn for 7 years on a skid. My buddy knew i had a thing for Olds and Buick and now i own it.

setting next to the engine where bigger heads (hopefully those are the "D" heads) and several other part . i beleive it is this motor because i did find 69 cutlass grill inserts and older trim
