My friend is running a 2004r with a shift kit for a trans and a built 7.5 rear end. I would recomend looking for an 8.5 out of a GN if you want to make more than 500HP although his 7.5 has been flawless. Its equiped with a zexel torsion differential, 28 spline axles(Moser) and a T/A performance girdle. If you want overdrive get a 200 built by a competent shop, he kept going through this budget shop and after the 3rd attempt its finally holding the power. Im not sure how much power manual transmissions take. Terry (at FCR) seems to have an answer for any question that we come up with though. If you do indeed have a solid main web block he would appreciate a phone call to let him know where you found it. He has told me that to the best of his knowledge there are no SMW blocks.

First a 330 is a sb. The 350 and 403's have everything but the pistons interchangeable. Another good site is www.oldspower.com

On a side note, the 403's all came with 4A heads, and all auto t/a's in 79 got em, that's all.

Here's a site I had looked at when I was considering going with the Olds 403 for my 84 GP. It sounds like you already have some money invested into a working engine. I didn't and later decided against it for that reason and went with a SBC V8.

Outside air induction....sounds exciting and worth paying extra for.....NOT.
Every car brings in cool outside air via the hose running from the aircleaner to the radiator support. GM marketing boyz.

car looks good i dont like the head light grilles or the stick on hood scoops. currie does sell a bolt in 9 inch for the g body its a little pricey tho even a 12 bolt if you like. any parts you cant find just ask theres alot of nice helpfull people on here.

I agree, I don't believe the 403 had solid-main-webs. There were rumors that a few had them, but TMK none have yet to materialize. The late 350s didn't have them either.

I lucked out on my '70 350 that I have in the '86, has the solid webs, built up pretty nice. I run a set '72 #7a (subscript capital A) heads. These are pretty decent heads, are like the 5 ~ 7 except has the hardened seats to run unleaded fuel. Intake's a Performer RPM with 750 Edelbrock carb. Haven't justified the jump to the aluminum Edelbrock heads or the Mondello pieces...yet.

As many have stated opening up the intake & exhaust are good starting points, then go from there. Go luck, the Cutty looks  !!

I vote FCR performance as well. Man knows his Olds and is a big fan of the 403 for a street motor. 425HP & 450TQ is very strong on a pump gas street car. Just don't spray it or spin it more than you have to as the windowed block has it limits and I think this is getting close enough.

www.2004r.com Has a level three that would hold this motor for $1,495 and if you plan to put alot of miles on her annually and take her on the interestate well worth the money. Under 200-4R catalog it also list the TCC lock up switch and the torque converter that you will want. They have a 2400 stall for $269 that would work well and hold up for a somewhat budget converter.
