I spotted oil or something that was spattering on the inside of my Daughter's Jeep wheel. Luckily not oil, but it turned out to be a leaking wheel cylinder. Changed that, and a new brake line. The shoes were new and I cleaned them up with alcohol and Brake Kleen. They seem OK but are they? I know oil soaked shoes should just be junked but what about brake fluid?

That's what I wanted to hear!

Finished it up today. Brakes work fine. In fact the alcohol/Brake Kleen left them looking like new. I never had brake fluid soaked shoes before, so this was a learning experience. Good to know it doesn't ruin the shoes. Thanks guys.

Actually, I thought it was an axle seal and almost ordered the parts. After I saw what it really was I grabbed the part at the local Mom & Pop's and some Kleener. I think what happened was the self-adjusters didn't work, and they weren't snugged up to begin with when the brakes were done recently. That allowed the wheel cylinder to expand too much and eventually leak. It didn't show the usual signs of failure like rust and pits.
