Does anyone know if a 86 Regal would have a plunger style brake switch? I'm trying to determine which TCC lock up kit to get, a brake relay kit or the plunger style brake switch kit.

Define plunger, or show a pic. The brake light switch is depressed when the pedal is retracted, so it is spring loaded to close the contacts when the pedal is depressed on the brake lights, and it opens a second switch which controls the TCC at the same time the brake lights go on. There are 4 contacts on it, 2 for the brake lights, 2 for the TCC.

The first one.

You would need the first one you showed, the plunger one

thanks.

and while i've got you here another random question. I had to put a 2 inch spacer on my carb for clearance issues. Is the insulation on the hood absolutely necessary? Or can I remove it to add some clearance?

Just a tip.....you'll notice in the instructions to wire up the solenoid in the transmission they'll tell you that you need a 2 wire solenoid and if you have a single wire solenoid you'll need to purchase a 2 wire solenoid. If you do have a single wire solenoid when you remove the solenoid you'll notice that the ground wire is attached to the housing of the solenoid. Don't bother buying a new 2 wire solenoid, all you have to do is remove the ground wire on the housing and attach another wire to it, solder it and cover it with a heat shrink is the best method.
