I had a customer today that was having issues with the rubber intake end seals pushing out on his 455. My first thought was to discard them and use RTV instead, same as I do with my sbc's. He wasn't to crazy about that idea, and I wasn't exactly sure if it would be fine on the Buick or not. So my question is, have any of you guys running Buicks ever used the RTV instead of the rubber seals? Have any of you had an issue with the rubber seals getting pushed out? What have you done about it?

I'd check to be sure the PCV/vent system is clear and functioning first. RTV should be fine, if not better than rubber end seals. I'm not really a Buick guy but that's been my experience with almost any engine.

It might be worth a search over at http://www.v8buick.com

Thanks.

That was the first thing I asked him, was told everything was good. That's what I figured on the RTV.

Anyone on here that has personally done it?

Does a 350 count?

I always chuck the rubber seals and use rtv. Havent finished the 455 yet, but the 350 has similar gasket.

I'd say it does. Thanks, that's exactly what I hoped to hear.

I just did a quick search on V8 buick, and alot of people also use the rubber end seals with success.

Some people use both RTV and the end seals. The important thing is to check the gap and make sure you are infact getting a seal. Sometimes the rubber isnt thick enough.

I have never used the rubber end seals on many different engines, and my intakes dont leak.

I use the rubber gaskets with a touch of 3M weatherstrip adhesive, and a dab of RTV where they come into the sheet metal gaskets.

That's how my Buick 455 is. I haven't had any issues such as that thus far; running strong for nearly 5 years now.

I ran both small and big block Buicks that way, sometimes with gasket and rtv, some just rtv, frankly I find just rtv simpler.
