Ok so I am at a cross roads with the engine build that I am doing. I have about 1500 invested in all part from the carb to cam bearings. I am pretty close to having a stong built 350 Buick

Here is what I have purchased

Comp Cam kit
TA intake
New crank
Edelbrock 1400
Edelbrock a/c
whole bunch of misc, high volume oil pump, new water pump, valve covers etc

How far do I go with the machine shop?

I have cylinders with no ridges and they look good. THe main bearings were pretty tore up. I beleive that the engine had bad oil pump volume and killed the crank and bearings.

I guess I am looking for what people have put in their engines and when I should say,,,,naahhh that is or not needed.

Since you said there is no ridge at the top likely you can get away with a quick honing on the cylinders. depends how much taper and out of round the cylinders are. I would also have new cam bearings put in.

The last Buick 350 I had was in great shape, but I put the high volume oil pump kit and fully grooved main bearings in BEFORE I had problems. IIRC the Buick feeds oil to the cam and lifters before the mains, why I don't know.

You have spent a lot of money on good parts. I would take the block and have it checked. Cylinders may look good but like what was said above they could be tapered. How does the crank look? If the bearings were trashed your in for atleast a grind. I would also have new cam bearings installed as well. Is this the type of stuff your asking or am I way off base? You need to have the rods checked and possibly resized especially if you had bottom end trouble or you are going to be using a different crank. Your main bores should be checked for straightness as well, the block deck surface should be checked to make sure its square. Usually the checking of all this stuff is very cheap at a machine shop. I had my 350 block, cleaned, magnafluxed, deck surfaces, and main bore checked for 60 dollars.

Good information, also My crank looks to be not worth keeping a new quality crank from crankshaft rebuilders only costs me 160$ which includes the bearings.

I am definately going to spend the money to get it right.

I'll probably have 2500 in when finished. This is what I am looking for, am I off base?

Update..... Glad I took the time to surf Ebay one last time before I left for the machine shop in the A.M. Cost to perform valve job on my existing heads and re-seat...$300 plus parts.

ATK has an overstock website Ebay page selling remanufactured heads $99.00 ea plus $30.00 for shipping, I about fell out of my chair!

There are 3 left if anyone needs Buick 350 heads.
