Apparently the rear bumper shocks of an 85 Regal do not work for an 85 Cutlass??

Smack it into a tree a couple of times! Just kidding.

They should have bolted up and worked. Strange the 85 Regal doesn't- assuming they really ARE from an 85 Regal. Some 79-85 E body bumper shocks are the same as the 85 Cutlass rear as well, such as Rivi, Toro, Eldorado, could be front or back, but they did vary those from year to year on some of them.

Did you buy them new? If not, you don't have a clue WHAT they came off of as they all look similar and physically bolt in, but slightly different lengths. You can't just mix and match.

78-88 Cutlass all use the same rear bumper shock.

Thanks for the response 69hurstolds. I thought they'd all be interchangeable. I got them from a G-Body parts dealer on ebay with a 99%positive feedback. They had a handwritten label of tape on them, labeled Regal. I was thinking maybe it's possible that them not being mounted after so long that maybe they expanded... not being 'under load'. They're literally 2" too long. And funny about the tree idea. Maybe a wall instead haha.

Unless someone had the wrong ones on the Regal. Should be the same part number, thus the same length.

New Cutlass rear bumper shocks are approx. 4-5/8" measured to the bumper face to the frame face (where it bolts to the frame). Front Cutlass bumper shocks are nominally around 6-1/8" . Maybe that will help.
