I've got an 86 regal limited that was broken into and the steering column was smashed in an attempt to steal the car thankfully the battery was dead and the car would not start. Now ive got a car that wont start with a key but instead a screwdriver which is really getting frustrating i know the big answer is to replace the column but temporarily is there anything i can do like maybe push button start or something similar i can do so this isn't such a pain anymore any advice would be much appreciated.

You need to drop the steering column to get to the ignition switch to wire up a pushbutton, so it's probably more work to do that than to just fix it the right way.

Those thieves must have been pretty mad when they found out the battery was dead   . That must have been a relief.
