I'll see what I can do photo wise, Funny you mention the oil filter, After I installed this set of headers I found out that
an oil filter wrench will NOT fit between the tubes. There is barely enough room to get the filter in and out.
I had put a cheap filter on the motor just for the first run in. Thank god I saw the problem before hand. I had to nearly
crush the sides in to get it off. I then went with the K&N with the 1" bolt head on the bottom.
It is the deep filter (#2002) So you can reach up from underneath with a socket extension and twist it out.

Look for pics soon !

Here are photos of the headers being fitted to the old motor prior to removal. you can see how if the motor was further
forward in the frame that the # 7 tube would be right on the slip joint of the column.

Strange the 305 and 350 should be a easy switch ,when i did this swap i went from a 4.3 v6 to the sbc350 ,drive shaft stayed the same just had hd joints put in at the frame shop. Did you chand to a different transmission, that would change the driveshaft length, but 305 to 350 should not have changed a thing.very interesting. On the larger oil filter topic anyone know the part number for the larger filter. I hVe plenty of room for it with my headers.

I installed the motor w/ OEM mounts from Autozone for the 305 style engine, The drive shaft had
to be shortened about 3" from the stock length. I know it seems odd but it's the way it works.
I have checked the numbers and the cars original motor and transmission were in the car prior to the last
2 which I installed myself. The first 350 was having issues with the oil pressure. The block and crank were
both worn. The new motor is a GM performance crate motor.

Unless you installed a longer trans than was there before there would be no replacement SBC that would require a shorter driveshaft.
For which engine did you buy the new mounts for the second or current one and at what time did the driveshaft need to be shortened?

His driveshaft had to be shortened because he is useing a longtail th350 if he would have used a shorttail he wouldnt have had to touch the driveshaft because the shorttail th350 is identical in length as the 200r4. That was his problem there.

Ok lets roll these credits one more time ....

1987 monte Carlo H vin code 305 200R4 until 9/27/2011 Then installed -
1979 SBC 350 Camaro motor 0.030" over w/ 85 TH 350 9" tail removed 11/23/2012 then installed-
2012 SBC 350 GM performance crate motor w/ 85 TH 350 9" tail on 11/24/2012

different = headers. all else remained the same from first 350 install. the drive shaft was shortened about 3" when
the transmission was changed from 200R4 to the TH350. Cross member also changed for correct version.
all engine mounts ,transmission mount, external engine components from the original 305 were moved to both the newer
350 engines. No other alterations were made. Car drove great other than the oil pressure issues with the 79 motor.
Block and crank / connecting rods worn. Went with long tail TH 350 because it was priced right and was having no luck
finding 6" tail version.

Opted for GM performance crate engine

OK, really passed over on that one I thought I read the whole post and he was saying he had to shorten the driveshaft after putting in the new engine in with the new mounts. Hey, it's been a long week.

I was starting to think I was dreaming... Maybe If I wake up it will all be finished and then I can just drive.... AHHHHHHH

😀

I have Hedman hedders on my 81 Malibu ( Great hedder) My only problem with my Hedman hedders is when fixing the starter the hedder has to be unbolted from the motor and the exhaust to remove the starer. I use the Tall truck oil filter, As the car oil filter is short. Im thinking of buying the Flowtech/Jegs brand headers for the price and maybe get a way from the starter problems I have with hedman hedders. I would also like to use the long (truck style) oil filter, But I dont want any more fitment issues. If you run Flowtech #11104FLT/Jegs #30060 hedder .

I run NAPA gold oil filter #1061, #1069 is the short one.. its 5.178 inches tall. In the past I used fram PH5 (Tall), PH30 is the short (car style) its 4inches.

Hey, You said you changed the transmission crossmember for the TH350. G-bodys came with two different transmission crossmember and trans mounts. The V8 cars had a crossmember and mount that was straight back, Wile the V6 cars used a crossmember that the transmission mount was offset to one side. If the V6 crossmember is used with a V8 trans mount the transmission would have to be pushed over to one side to bolt up the trans mount, This maybe why the header is so close to the steering shaft and shift linkage.
