Camshaft info

Hey all,

I've been reading about how to get power out of a stock Chevy 305, and I've seen that the most power usually comes a new camshaft. I don't know ANYTHING about cams, like all the lingo, and whatever duration and lift is and all that, and if less lift is better etc... So, I was wondering if someone could firstly explain what all that means, and then recommend a good cam that should give like a 20 to 30hp boost.

I would contact a cam company like Comp or Lunati and talk to them. They could make a recommendation based on info about your car and intended use.

Google - camshaft specs explained - there is a lot of good reads. Remember it's a complete package carb, intake, heads, cam, torque converter, rear.
