Can anyone ID this wire and what it's for?

Found a wire in the engine compartment that the mechanic didn't hook up. And I am trying to figure out what it's for, or if I even need it. It comes off some kind of vacuum 'thingy' on the drivers side wheel well, and has a vacuum hose going to the water neck. Here is 2 pics with the vacuum 'thingy' circled?

And no, that's not the new engine, that's still the stock 305 in the pic.
 
I beleive it is a vacuum switch that has to do with the torque converter clutch in the transmission. The original trans in your car was most likely a THM200C ?
 
OK, that makes sense. Since there was a wire (I wasn't expecting) hooked to the original transmission.
