355 gen 1 small block, 194/150 valve VORTEC heads, RPM airgap intake, 1 5/8 in headers. TH350 trans 4.10 and sometimes 4.30 gear Ford 8.8 ( if the brackets I've designed hold..LOL ) rearend. Car runs no power accessories except power brakes. Occasional street driven bracket racer 1/8 mile.( thats why I dont run 4.56 gears) I have read everything I can find on Vortec heads and such but I can't figure out what hydraulic FLAT tappet camshaft will work best for me and my combination. Vortec heads have been modified for up to 510 lift but I know the design calls for what I would think is a somewhat unique cam grind. HELP!

compression? car wheigh? tire size? and how much rpm will the bottom hold? are you willing to use a stall?

Thanks greasemonkey,

10-1 compression car weight is approx. 3350 w/driver I have a 2200 stall but willing to go to 2800-3000 Tire height is 28 inches. small tube, full length headers, 2 1/2 exhaust and 3 chamber flowmasters. 6000 rpm bottom prefer 5500 max. 84 Olds Cutlass.

this cam would work very good in that application. lots of torque and good hp. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

also, a 4000-4500 stall would be better for ultimate consistency and would still be just fine on the street with a large transmission cooler. overall, sounds good. a lot like my combo im putting together for my 84 cutlass bracket car. i dont drive mine on the street though. so i plan to gut the car completely. hope this helps.

FLY_THE_BOWTIE is on the right track with that cam it would work very well, but i would go for a little less duration and 110-112 degre lobe sep like this one if you run your current stall- comp XE-274-H. 230-236 .490 lift 110 degre lobe sep, or this if you choose a biger stall- comp XE-284-H. 240-246 .507-.510 lift 110 degre. If you want to street drive this car you will want to stay with 3000 or less stall. been there done that and 4000 stall suks to drive around town .

Thanks to everyone so far for your advice. I think I'll step up the stall size to the border of whats streetable. 2600-2800 The car will usually be trailered to the track because of distance 1-1 1/2 hrs. and when I street drive it will be locally or as required by some of the "power cruise" type events.. I like the Comp Cams xe284 and 274 grinds I also think a Crower 00211 is looking good...

cam

i have a Crower 00243. The duration @ .050" is 225 & 230. The intake life .454" and the exhaust lift is .463". The centerline remains at 112 degrees. i have a 383 and pulls 400ft tq at 2700rpm -4300. i run 700 r4 transmission with 4.10 richmond gears in a 12 bolt rear .tci 2500 stall. i wanted something drivable since i drive my car 90% of time
