Can you identify this plug?

Personally I like french fries over potatoes.

Now that everyone's scratching their head wondering what that has anything to do with anything we can not worry about the switch anymore because I left it unplugged...

At the very least we know it's not going to cause me headaches like preventing starting the car. The 79 column (without that extra plug) wouldn't start in gear, indicating there was a mechanical lockout in the column. Since all other wiring on both columns besides the wipers is the same, it would make sense that the column internals are the same.

The diagram for the 84 column shows the switch going into the ecm, which we all know controls engine function. With my early wiring harness and a basic carbureted hot rodded engine with minimal wiring, neither the wiring harness or the engine would have use for this extra plug to be tapped into something and therefore it's unplugged. So, give me a couple more days to finish getting the car together and I'll let you all know if it started ok. 8)

Thanks to everyone who chimed in and helped me identify this thing.

BTW I got the wiper wiring all sorted out, it was quite easy. I will have all my photos updated in my build thread in a week or two when things settle down. Link is in my signature.

Yes, and the term is simply incorrect. Almost always when someone mentions a 'neutral safety switch' they have it in their heads it is for preventing starts when in gear and in a G and B body ( I can't speak for others ) this is just not the case. So if someone mentions a 'N/S switch' in their G-body, you can almost guarantee they think it has to do with allowing their car to start or not. It's best to educate those people and explain to them that while it may be listed in a parts book as a 'N/S switch', it is in fact a 'P/N switch' for the ECM and has no effect on starting your car.
I will humbly back down here. I see your point for the correct function explanation. Thank you for the clarification 8)
