Canada fires

My cousin had to evacuate the Halifax fire. House survived and they got needed rain. Breathing that stuff is way bad. When driving your car put AC on Max air. That recirculates cabin air on the most part

Yup most of them are re-purposed military Deuce and a Halfs.. they are tough.
After the '95 fire a lot of the departments switched to 5 tons since they carry more water. Pretty impressive trucks. My old job had one built for over $100K. They got the truck for free. Used it a few times and auctioned it off and got a small truck instead. I think they were worried about injuries when they were doing mutual aids. Pretty sure the new truck doesnt leave the site.

The old and the new. Quite a difference.

It has been pretty clear here thanks to the prevailing West winds and most Alberta fire being out. Hopefully everything gets under control down East.

Fires in Northern Quebec are the source for most of the smoke affecting the Northeast right now.

This is a great tool to visualize where the source is coming from.

Jetstream was doing something weird and pushing it all straight south early in the week. Looks like it has shifted and stuff should be clearing for many areas now.

This would be one of the primary tools being used in fighting those fires right now

Most of that area is pretty remote and a lot is not accessible at all by vehicle. It's all rock and mostly coniferous forests. The good thing is there's tons of lakes, ponds rivers etc that is likely slowing the progress, and gives those water bombers easy access to lakes for refilling.

Syracuse NY had the worst air quality in the entire US yesterday. My head was killing me by the end of the day, and I work inside.

This reminds me of when I flew into LA back in 1970. A big brown cloud hung over the city because of a temperature inversion. You could see it as we flew in over the mountains. But once on the ground all I smelled was chili dogs.

One thing Im sure will change after this is the price of lumber. A box of cedar R&Rs is over $500 right now. Im sure its going to be a lot more after this is over.

That's where a vast majority of the lumber in our area comes from. So I'm expecting the same thing
