In the space of a week, the Putz Office and FedUp are in a tie as to who can screw up the worst. First up is FedUp. I ordered 8 quart bottles of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar (with the MOTHER!) from Wally World and it got as far as the first FedUp hub. It was "lost". Right. Two gallons smashed to bits. The place must now stink to high heaven. Wally sent a replacement and 5 of them got through. I love tracking history. 6:07 AM- on truck. 9:32- delivery exception- damaged. 1:23 PM delivered. (what survived was re-boxed). Wally won't send any more so they refunded me the 3 broken ones. Next up is the Putz Office. I ordered a six-pack of 1/2 pint POR-15 paints. The guy was out of stock so he ordered them for me from a third party vendor. That guy put the wrong name on the package and the PO flagged it as "addressee unknown". I started an investigation and the PO called me to say the package was still in the station and would be sent out with tomorrow's delivery. So far-so good. Except that now the tracking says it was delivered at my door TODAY. That is odd because at that exact time I was at my door explaining the situation to my carrier. He said he would look for it and bring it tomorrow. WTF????? Did they grab some noob and send him out to deliver it and he screwed up big time? Is it still sitting there and they scanned it delivered just to cover their asses and close the case? I was carrier for 36 years. If I did this crap I would have been dragged into the manager's office and read the riot act. OK rant over.

No one can do anything anymore. They are all special and deserve to be rewarded for breathing in and out. Meritocracy is dead. Quality and excellence are so old fashioned Boomer. Dont you know they have important video games to play and grams to insta. Those selfies aren't going to post themselves. They can't read a clock but they can all tick tock.

I weep for what we have wrought and am so glad I dont have any kids. They can't read, can't spell, and can't write. They can't actually string a coherent sentence together either. I work with people for whom English is a second language and they have a better grasp of the language than most of my neighbors or their kids.

Rant over.

It's rather sad when you think about it. Even with scanning tools and bar codes, SOMEONE must put the right info on the label and the right label on the right box after SOMEONE has to put whatever it purchased in the right box to begin with. This is where a lot goes wrong. If anyone packing something to ship, pretend you want to protect it from a 20-ton nuclear blast 50 feet away, and it should be ready for FedEx/USPS/UPS. 🙂

Everyone makes mistakes. Well-trained and good employees make fewer. Good companies minimize those mistakes and make adjustments when that happens, whether that's extra training, replacing inept bozos with another bozo, etc. But a new problem in management had started emerging when I was still working, and that is the "everybody gets a trophy" theory. Nobody should get fired. In fact, people that screw up, at worse, were getting what was laughably called "lateral promotions" to screw up somewhere else. That's kind of an oxymoron, but whatever.

The younger folks coming up behind were wizards on their iPhone, but idiots in almost every other aspect of tangible life. Not saying I was whiz-bang but I always tried to learn everything I could about my job and the corporate structure/operations. I would imagine it would be easier for someone to succeed in this new "Idiocracy" that we seem to be heading toward. Maybe not, but there's more social ideals leading the day instead of business-minded people that know how to efficiently use logistics and obtain/expend available resources to be able to take on the new challenges of the company goals. Why? It's your JOB! It's not there to make you or your colleagues "feel good."

Unfortunately, service jobs are the one thing that you can't export overseas more efficiently, otherwise they'd probably do that, too. Unfortunately, we're left with more and more ineptness.

"lateral promotions"
Yup- that is what the PO does with total screw-up supervisors. They called it a "lateral transfer" which means send them to another district that doesn't suspect what an A-hole they are, yet. We used to have a guy that would yell out on the workroom floor: "They said if I didn't study hard I would end up with a moron's job". Looks like he was right.

That's the difference in our society from people your age (I know you're an old fart) and the sub 30 something generation.

'Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country'

With the JFK quote in mind think about how we educate our children as to why they aren't obligated to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance or for the National Anthem. We reward them for finding the easy way out. Is it surprising that we have a developed a group in our society that spends the bulk of their effort trying to determine how to do less?

Edit : forgot to mention Bonnewagon - I can deliver stuff, I can even drive a dump truck and back up without dumping my load

Nailhead- me too. I once delivered a package that had been around the world three times. It was for a dead GI that got killed in a IED trap in Iraq. I located his buddies wife. She said he and her husband had been killed together and she would take care of the package. She was holding a baby in her arms. I sat in my truck and cried for about 15 minutes. In other news I tracked down my package. The PO did not listen to what I said. Instead they delivered it around the corner from me. "Close enough!"

I too, am a former delivery driver (LTL freight). I agree that quality workmanship has gone down the drain. Is it that the big delivery companies are too big, and too fast paced, to be careful with a customer's property?

Would that be at the same place that they always delivered your other packages over the years cause of the simular address?

Yes. I am on 93rd AVENUE and they are on 93rd ROAD. Maybe I should move there? Naw, I get their stuff too.
