Is my carburetor supposed to have the little plug in the front corner of it :?: Because it definitely doesn't, and I ordered the one that matches the one that is on it right now.
Does this mean that it is not a computer controlled carburetor, if there is not a plug on it?
Would it make a big difference at all if it is supposed to have the carburetor with the plug and it doesn't have that one?

I need all of you computer controlled carburetor guru nuts out there to let me know :!:

84 Certainly SHOULD have had that plug for the mixture control solenoid on top, and then another one for the TPS...

Look at this one:

It is very common for people to remove the computer controlled ones and replace them with the ones from 78-80 that were mechanical.

Do you also have vacuum advance? You shouldn't. Your computer should control EGR/Carburetor mixture control/spark advance and such. Do you have cut wires anywhere?

Your ECM should be under the dash on the passenger side.

Yes it does have the vacuum advance, there are no cut wires but there are random plugs laying around, but all the smog pump and all that stuff is removed too :?

Well, you certainly don't have ECM control now!!

Is there anything else that needs to be replaced on these engines when the computer controlled carburetors are removed? Should I check anything else?
I don't think my vacuum advance is working right, because when I unhook it, it doesn't run any different. Should I replace it or is there some way I can adjust it?

You can check it simply by hooking it up to a hand held vacuum pump while the engine is running and observing the reading on your timing light.

It should be hooked to one of the vacuum ports that is above the throttle plates to get a ported vacuum signal.

Naw it is hooked up, I was just saying that the idle doesn't change at all when I unhook it. Doesn't a car usually run really rough when you unhook the vacuum advance

vacuum should have little or no affect on the timing at idle. put a vac gauge on the carb port and watch it as you rev the engine slowly. ported vac usually starts abot 1k-1500rpm i believe.
