Ask about "avascular necrosis". That's what happened to me and the orthopedic surgeon took a couple of tries to find it. He ruled out all the tendons almost immediately with the tests he did. But he couldn't tell me why my knee hurt. Essentially, the end of my femur was dying and getting reabsorbed due to lack of blood flow to the end of the bone. One day I stood up and "pop" the pain sucked and I immediately had to sit down and it hurt like hell. A few months and a buttload of extra strength aleve later I was still hurting and limping. He didn't find it until I kept whining like a beeyotch and he finally did an MRI. Xray don't show you anything if it's that. MRI showed it and it wasn't cool. Also have a little arthritis in my knee joint too, but it was very mild.
Not saying it is that, but my surgeon has 20+ years doing this and is considered one of the best in the area and it took him a minute to find it. He said that is usually found in the hips, not the knees or elbows very often, although it can happen about anywhere. After he did the backfill with the "cement" process he injected into the end of the bone using arthroscopic surgery (BONDO), and a couple months of PT, I'm almost 100% again. At least it doesn't hurt. He said that should buy me about 5-8 years and it probably won't get better, but it won't get any worse as far as reabsorbtion. Eventually I'll probably have to get a new knee. Not looking forward to that.
Anyway, here's a couple of nurses from the Heart Attack Grill to help take your mind off your pain for about 20 seconds anyway. Feed the knee!!!! 🙂 Good luck. I know what it's like to keep mucking around.
