CDL Holders

If you want to call it good new, we had a guy "medically retire" today & got word of another deciding state work isn't for him so if you want to plow snow near the house all you need is to be able to drive a standard, have tanker, have either an A or B licences. I'll admit the pay isn't going to allow you to have regular European vacations but you're home everyday with weekends off unless the weather says different.

I finish up the end of June. I'll seriously keep that as an option.

Hauling fuel keeps you home daily (no sleepers usually.) The loading and unloading is something that you have to master.

Be advised - truck drivers don't work 40hrs/wk.

I'm partial to KW's. I had mine before the auto only CDL. Seems most the new stuff it going automatic anyway, but doesn't hurt to get the manual license for the older stuff. I agree, I'd look for the local runs, before I'd get into the long haul routes.

What do you want to do .There are long haul jobs .In state and local And a variety of trucks to drive as well .From 53 footers to box trucks .I hear there is a shortage of drivers out there .So they should pay pretty well .As long as you can deal with the traffic.

I would like to not do long haul for the next couple years. Other than that, I'm keeping my options open.

I drove several flat decks with a lumber yard years ago, Ford Louisville’s with Cummins power and 18 speed Eaton fuller transmissions. Also got stuck in an and old Ford COE job with a 3208 Cat. After a few years there I moved on to a beverage distributor and drove IH box trucks with DT466 and straight 5 or 6 speed transmissions. The jobs didn’t pay particularly well and I eventually moved on. Kept the license but haven’t been in the cab of a truck in 22 years. Maybe find a retirement gig running a truck again some day, I did enjoy being on the road.

Last week went on the road with a 13 speed Kenworth. I think I faired well for only two days of experience in it.
