Central Florida?

Yeah miami is definitely a cesspool. I absolutely hate when i have to go down to biscayne blvd for work. Or to the nap of the americas data center Its the big building with two huge white sat balls on the roof in downtown. Surrounded by homeless people. Always fun at 2AM

Im east of lake okeechobee surrounded by preserves. Country enough but still only a 25 minute drive to jupiter beaches and inlet. Jupiter is getting more and more like west palm as people move up north though

At least we still have the orchids day spa where bob kraft can get his happy endings

Youre definitely better off in ocala

My uncles property is about 5min from the museum and I still haven’t gone. We do spend a lot of time at the Sunny’s next to it though!
One of the biggest things I’m looking forward to is finally having a couple acres so I can build a little shop. I miss having my shop.
I think you'd be much happier living in Ocala. Just make sure you do your research as to what areas you'd consider living. I love the rolling hills and horse farms in Marion County. Your dream of building a nice shop is definitely within grasp.
Even John Trivolta lives in Marion County. 😉

You certainly can't get hurt eating at Sunny's. Still one of the best BBQ places in Florida.

I can't speak for recent times, but when I worked at Turkey Point nuke plant, I lived SOUTH of Miami, in Cutler (Cutthroat) Ridge. This was 20 years ago. I went to bed every single night it seemed to the sound of sirens from police and ambulances. It sucked. When I got the chance, I moved over to Crystal River Unit 3 nuke plant, which is just a ways north of Tampa albeit a different company. On the way out of town, I stopped at the Publix to get some ice for the cooler and learned later not 20 minutes after I left that store they had an armed robbery!!!

Ocala and surrounding area is a MAJOR difference in comparison. Loved, loved, loved it in that area. But my roots were here in SC, and when I got a chance to come back here, I did. Didn't really want to leave, that was a tough decision. But it worked out for me because Unit 3 got a huge crack in the containment building a few years later and they shut that nuke plant down. Anyway, Ocala isn't too far away from Crystal River and Gainesville is right up the road north of there and an easy zip over to Mickey's house in Orlando if you choose (do they still have those cruise ins at Kissimmee?). It's a slice of heaven compared to Miami area. Miami is a nice place to go see for a weekend and then turn around and come home. 🙂 But I could do without living there. They do have everything you would ever need/want. And I mean EVERYTHING. Name it, it's in Miami. Good and the bad. Even the Marlins!

Ah, you ,mean Old Town. To my knowledge they still have active cruises there. I've been there once several years back. It was pretty nice, a lot of cool cars. Usually a pretty healthy turnout. It's got a small town atmosphere, narrow streets and an assortment of concessions and rides. The participants drive their cars around those streets

I know nothing of Florida geography but 100% endorse your desire to get more rural.

Agree, rural living is better than in the city. I live in a rural area of NJ, but it is becoming built up in recent years and I want to move someplace warmer with cheaper taxes. So it is interesting to hear about the good and bad parts of Fl.
