Hi,

I just replaced my oil pan gasket while the motor is on the engine stand. Is there a way to check the oil pan for leaks before dropping it back into the car. I couldnt word this on google search for the life of me. Thanks.

You could find obvious leaks by filling it with oil and watching but most of the time oil leaks arent that obvious. Normally it takes a little time unless there is a glaring issue like a rear main seal. sh*t it took about 3 months for my oil pan gasket to show a leak but its not noticeable on the dipstick so I live with it.

prime the engine with priming tool once you've got oil dripping from top down you'll have an idea of any glaring leaks, only problem is you wont have full pressure which will tell all.

since it's on a stand put oil in the engine and turn it on it's side for a while and then on the other side to see if there are any leaks. For the rear main and time cover seal you'll need to have the engine running

I know this is an old post but I am using the Fel Pro one piece rubber oil pan gasket an not a drop of oil leaking.it was a little pricey around 40.00 bucks but i'll never use anything but a one piece gasket,If you used a chrome oil pan cover u should have ruffed the gasket sealing surfaces on the oil pan so it wouldn't leak if you didn't do that there's are chance it will be leaking oil all over the ground
