I have a 1974 chevy 350 that i am going to build. The motor originally came with solid hydrolic lifters for the cam. Can i change to roller lifters? My dad told me you cant do it because the block is to old, the newer ones have different clearances. Is he right? i would really like a roller cam in there if there is a way. Let me know. Thanks in advance.

it can be done, but the retro kits are expensive. it's worth it though. modern oil, inc. synthetic, no longer has ZDDP which is an EXTREMELY important wear additive for a hydraulic flat-tappet cam. you can use ZDDP additives but that's a pain in the *ss. with a roller you can use any good oil straight from the bottle. i wish i'd known about this when i built mine, i would have gladly spent the extra money.
