A couple years ago I had an 89 Riv and I found a company identifier and it had a company monikker so I used the company name in google and it turns out it was a chinese company which made the lightup panel for the opera light -R- on either side. I emailed back and forth with them and had an idea to have them send me lots of these cheap little panels and try to get something together. My idea was that lots of ford fans might enjoy having their front ford badge light up upon startup of the vehicle. I never proceeded with the plan, which also included having them replicate thousands of the riviera R's and sell them on ebay over the next few years. The reason I backed out is I determined they only made the panel - not it's outer housing (lame).
Now as a result of this inquiry a struggling chinese manufacturer sent me something and they make headlights/foglights for foreign cars and undersell oem equipment. They even make a volvo grille for late 00 models too!
I know this company wasn't appealing to me as a potential consumer, because they sent me to their bulk order corporate site! This therefore means they were 'fishing' for a potential investor as result of the previous inquiry of the opera light manufacturer, who is probably a business associate. Being that this puts me in a position to reply as a bulk consumer, I thought I might as well ask the only folks who I know could possibly benefit from this situation. These people think I have huge investment capital, and this is probably a real oppurtunity to do something big.
These people could easily replicate euroclip pieces, tail lights, and yes opera light housing. It is so obvious to me that the opera panel company misunderstood from poor english grammar skill that I was a millionaire investor (as oppose to a thousandneere) and knows I dropped the inquiry based on that they didnt make the Riv opera light -R- housing. this is a company that can make the housing which contacted me!
Therein follows a moral debate which I understand the reprecussions of clearly. Someone will come here with a red face after reading this post and say 'these pieces should be made by americans in the United States and this is blasphemy shame on you' and 'how dare you propose we cheapen our cars with these shoddy parts and sponsor child labor in a communist country' etc. etc. Maybe someone will even propose falsely that I am 'trying to take advantage of the community here' and 'churn a profit' off you all: never.
I am not actually a millionaire in possession of investment capital stash! I could probably generate less than $10,000 in investment capital towards this idea and the company wouldnt take the propisition seriously. If that were the case I wouldn't be here lying the card on the table and privately be pursuing/researching this idea behind the scenes and keeping my motives silent.
Therefore the question remains: would any of you consider buying these chinese parts if the quality turned out to be good or even superior to oem quality and ended up looking really good - or would everyone be hating on the means in which this possibility were achieved?
If I were to pursue this idea, the next step would be to get some samples from them and see what kind of quality the pieces actually arrive in. If the pieces look good: Should I consider sending these people a 'test' set of lights/ or grille and see what kind of reproduction quality they ship back in return? Or is this idea really weak?
And before you answer people: lets remember China has no laws strictly monitoring corporations producing plastic parts/pollution generated from said production - but the US does. These pieces will never end up being made in the United States so be real about this discussion. If china doesnt reproduce these grilles/tail light housings etc. nobody else will do it for years to come.
Now I really don't want to get into the political part of this discussion either. I am not a 'globalization' guy and not a fan of some of the things which are going on in this country today. I wasnt a big fan of a decision Mitch Daniels recently made to send a trade group to sell acreage of corn/soybeans to asian companies which will result in the price of food going up locally in my area. We're not talking about food here, so its not that serious: and Chinese people have to eat too! Just not as much (j/k
)
Stick to the question: If the pieces were good quality would you buy them?
