How do I hook the floor shift cable to the transmission? Do I have to change the linkage since I am going from a Column shifter? I have everything I need to do this swap I hope. Thanks in advance.

Drill a hole through the floor, put in a gromet and attach the cable. As far as the linkage goes, either disconnect it and zip tie the column to the park position inside the engine bay or buy a steering column from a floor shift car.

Would HAVE to buy the floor shift column for the neutral safety switch and reverse lights to work....... Unless you jerry-rig something else up for those..... could probaly get away with just pulling the column shift arm out if didn't buy a floor shift column......

I believe that there is a different bracket for column shift and floor shift on the trans.

You guys have the right ideas but are getting them mixed up.

The column shift and floor shift columns are the same in terms of function, and the trans is connected to the column on either version. If you sit in a floor shift car and move the shifter from park to whatever gear, the collar of the column will move as if it had a shifter attached to it. This movement in the column is what controls the neutral safety and reverse lights.

Now as for hooking up the floor shifter, there will be a bracket that should come with your aftermarket shifter that will attach on top of the existing shifter bracket on the gear selector on the side of the trans. If you are using a stock floor shifter, you'll need the proper bracket to swap. This is where some people choose to either mount it on top and retain the functions of their neutral safety and reverse lights, or they disconnect the column linkage and tie the column up in park so they car start it any time, and just mount the cable straight to the gear selector.

Inside the car, you'll have to knock the pin out that holds the column shifter on. Hit the pin from the bottom with a punch and pull it out from the top, and the shifter lever slides right out.

Don't forget to properly adjust your shifter cable before you attempt to drive the car.

Blake, how do you adjust the shifter cable? I just got a 200-R4 and bought the 4 speed shifter, but it wont go into 1st gear manually.
