Hello all. As I am somewhat tired of having only front brakes (good burnouts tho) on my '70 Thunderbird, I am going to replace a section of split line that goes over the axle housing. Now, what type of connector should I use for the metal lines? Compression, or that fancy double flared stuff? This will be a daily driven 4500lbs vehicle at least for a while anyway until winter. Any input is appreciated.

I used a compression fitting in an emergency situation when i got a pinhole in my brake line running from the prop valve to the rear just so i could get my cutlass home. However as pontiacgp stated it's illegal, and definitely not very safe....changed out my line as soon as i could!

You should only use a double flare and union for brake lines. I know shops that use compression fittings and I ask them what happens when the customer panic stops with both feet on the brake pedal? They just shrug and say it hasn't happened yet. Do you feel lucky?

I'm surprised they still have their licence to operate

If you're changing your brake line take a look at the cunifer tubing. It will not corrode and is easy to bend with your hands. I used it for all my brake lines on my GP and I believe 565bbchevy uses it also.

Roughly how much brake line did you order? Is one 25 ft roll enough? Also, what size are the lines? I think I will go this route as the lines, fittings, and tool are less than buying a complete setup from inline tube.
