just got a 86 cutlass salon with a v8 swapped into it. all stock v8 so i plan on doing some work to heads, and putting a cam and intake, and a 4brl carb of course. but before putting in money into this motor i want to make sure the rings are good. what should the compression be on a stock 350. i was assuming it has 8.5to1 comp and should be 130 to 150 psi. plz let me know if im right.

Probably somewhere around there just do it 3 times per cylinder and compare them all if they are within the ballpark then you should be just fine

finally got around to checking the compression it was 140 to 150 psi on all 8 cylinders on a dry test with the engine cold. im happy with that. and the oil psi at idle is at 40psi steady, bumps up to 50 to 60 when u rev it a little. 😀 so im gonna leave this bottom end alone. seems good to me.

I just did a compression test on mine last week. 145 - 160 on all cylinders with 133k. The Oldsmobile FSM for a 307 states anything over 100 psi, and the lowest not less than 70% of the highest is within specs. Your specs seem good to me.

yeah i was thinkin the worst for this engine, the guy i got it from had a swap done to it so i have no clue on the mileage but now that i know the compression and oil psi is good that will save me the money that i was saving incase the bottom end wasnt good.
