I make a plate out of scrap aluminum. Sealed it up with silicone for extra insurance. Not very pretty, but you don't see it anyway.

I welded mine shut but the car was apart. A Bondo/fiberglass cloth sandwich would work.

I never removed the computer or any wiring from the harness, I cleaned up the presentation factor of my engine compartment by hiding all unused computer harness wires under a custom plate cover I made and painted it black so it blends in with the rest of the scenery. Looks good!
