cant find on the web but do 85 cutlass supreme come with computers? i was thinking about getting an thermomaster computer chip. i need more perfomane out my h/o 307.

Yes. Every GM vehicle from 81 and newer has the computer system. Before you buy a chip, I'd look toward the back of the car for increased performance. With the exception of the 442, the axle ratios used in G-body cars were really lame in order to squeeze out a bit more mpg. 2.41 was typical. Step up to something in the 3.08 to 3.42 range and you'll feel like you found another 50 HP.

I have 2 1985 salons...............both have no computer, actually they both do NOT even have the passenger side opening kick panel for the computer. my friend has an 85 442, which is computer controlled. I have seen a lot of non computer controlled cutlass in canada, so not all were computer controlled, and seems rather random as to which years were or were not

Yeah up there Canada you guys didn't get computers until 86-87 I think, but all of the H/O's and 442's still had them.

Since you're fom Canada can you answer this question for me? Where exactly was the vacuum operated electrical switch for converter lockup mounted? I'm assuming the firewall, but where exactly? Also, which port on the stock carb was this vacuum switch routed to? If possible, pics would be awesome if you can provide them.

Also, there should be a small vacuum delay valve somewhere in line between the vacuum switch and carb. If you have a spare one of those, I might be interested in it since they are disscontinued and I'm getting conflicting reports on what the aftermarket equivalent is.

That's the high-buck option, but you don't have to go that direction for a stock or near-stock motor. Any decent repair shop should be able to swap your stock gears for a deeper ratio set. Do some searching for threads on ratios and you'll get some opinions. 3.42 is about the limit for highway driving with a 3-speed trans, but if you have an overdrive trans, you can easily go 3.73 without a noticeable fuel mileage penalty. See if you still have the option list sticker on the inside of your trunk lid. The codes starting with letter "G" are the gear ratio codes, except for G80, which indicates the posi differential.

I think this is what your talkin about......mines on the fender. I have seen them on the firewall as well. the vacum delays were color coded i think. mines blue. checked both my salons, they are the same. the vacum line t's from the canister there, can see it pretty well in the pics i uploaded. unfortunately I just went through this with a friend and his 85 442, so I have no backups, but I regularly hit the junkers....so i will keep it on the list

here is the pics

You can buy a set of gears and everything needed such as bearings, gasket, fluid, for about 300-350. Having someone install it will be another 2-300 depending on prices in your area. So your looking at 5 to 600 but it will give you way more performance than any chip you will buy.

Dudeface, thanks for the pics. Yes, that's the vacuum switch I was refering to. I couldn't tell from the pic, but it appears to be routed to the purge port on the carb ( medium sized nipple on front throttle plate of carb )?

Yeah, if you or any other of north can get any of those blue delay valves ( GM # 14020691 ), let me know. If shipping isn't too expensive, I'll take a couple. Never hurts to have a backup ( and make it worth the shipping costs  ).

does not go to the carb............but goes to the front most sensor on the car. included another picture. the line t's into the top line on the front most temp/vacum sensor (mines purple) that line it t's into goes from that sensor to the EGR valve. in the photo you can see the line coming in parallel to the fuel filter housing, and the t's into one of those hard pvc vacum lines.
the lower vacum line from that sensor goes to the carb......also visible in the latest photo running the same curve as the fuel line to the fuel filter housing

hope that helps
