hunter_alexander posted in another thread about not being impressed with the Cutlass G-body reproduction console lid. I haven't actually mounted one up, but I did a comparison side by side to an NOS lid. Although not perfect, from what I saw I wouldn't have an issue using it on my own car if I couldn't find one NOS.

Thoughts? Anyone else with repro lid experience?

I should have clarified in my previous post on why I didn't like the repops. To me the grain texture feels and looks good. They are not soft though like the originals, and the 3 I purchased before were warped, as in having a curve front to back so each end stuck up and didn't sit flush with the console bucket itself. Even after using the metal plate and hinge screwed to it.

Don't get me wrong, its great that they redid them, as those are one of the most ratted out parts I see on consoles and were sorely needed. I just wish they were made a little better for the price. That's why I went with NOS this time.

It may be a good thing that they may not be as soft as originals, so it won't be so quick to crumble. I seem to recall it being about on par for softness between the NOS and repro. I may need to go recheck that. On the other hand, it seems like the "bow" in them is a standard feature on the repops. It seems like most, if not all, I've seen have that slight little upward bend in it. May or may not be fixable. Looking at TURNA -mobile, it certainly looks passable. Further detail it seems you can see a very slight bend up front. Maybe not. But if you're not looking for it the bend may not be all that noticeable. My thoughts go to his seats. Looks like a big tongue sliding up your *ss if you sit in the seat. D'oh! :D
