As some of you may know I currently own 2 Malibu wagons. My 79 has a 500ci big block  and the 81 is in progress. I was driving it a while ago and lost a cylinder. I picked up an 87 Camaro parts car for the engine. I decided sense it was already ready why fix what isn't broke? It was simple really. All I had to do was modify the peddle assembly, cut a hole in the floor, and shorten my drive shaft. Im using the hydraulic slave from the Camaro, it was a direct bolt in. The hole was already in the floor, it was originally for the cruse control harness. I don't care if I have cruse or not so out it went. I can re rout it if I decide to hook it up again later. All I had to do was drill 2 holes. Of course the engine was a direct bolt in, a small block is a small block. The trans cross member needed to be modified, but it was as simple as cutting the pad off, shortening it up a bit, and welding it back on. All Im waiting on now is a new carb, and a steering column. I can get away with out a manual column for a while, but I would rather just change it out so the swap looks as factory as possible. Because the bench seat is in the way Im gonna eventually switch to bucket seats, but for now it's fine. I had to take the shifter apart, turn it around, and weld a new handle on it, but it clears the seat. Some of you may wanna smack me for this but I used a ford t-case handle as my new shifter handle I'll post some pix later when Im not at work. I have been driving the car, but it still needs some work before it's done. Like I said, the carb is trash and I need to do some front suspension work.

I still haven't decided on a carb though, don't know what to use  Im leaning towards a 500cfm Edelbrock because it's only a stock 305 but I don't know. I like big blocks, soooooo much easier to figure this stuff out

Looking forward to the pics!

Here's a few pix, I'll be posting a video as soon as I can find someone to operate the camera.

I like these kinds of projects 😀 Might wanna change your fuel line, looks alittle kinked up (ok, a lot kinked  ) I have a few non-computerized Q-jet carb cores, if you're interested. Gregg

Okay now do mine! I'd love a standard cutty, but I'm not much of a welder so what you did seems a bit out of the question for me, it should be easy my car is dashless, and engineless and a bucket/console car, converting would be quite easy (for anyone whos not me), I'm sure.

the only welding is modifying the tanny support....the rest is setting up the pedals which are bolted in place, drilling two holes for the bolts on the master, cutting the tunnel for the stick and setting up the slave cylinder, clutch and transmission and getting your driveshaft shortened 3"

It's a lot easier then it looks, but I could do it for you. I talked to a few people when doing mine and I was told you don't have to modify the cross member. You can just make the hole longer and every thing fits. That was not the case for me for some reason. For the most part it's a direct bolt in. I used F body peddles so I had to weld the G body wings on but you don't have to do it that way. I used them because I had every thing out of the Camaro any way, no sense in letting them go to waste. In my case(and Im sure yours to) the holes in the dash were already there. Check this out, it will help you a lot if you decide to do it. Just don't tell any one I gave you my secret  http://garage-scene.com/t5-into-ag-body/

Oh yea, the fuel line looks kinked, but it's not. I kind of kinked it when bending it, but straightened it back out. The stock 2 barrel had the in let on the front and the q-jet has it on the side. It's to short to be on the side, and I am gonna get the right one eventually. Im getting a new carb and I don't wanna go threw all the trouble of replacing it until I know what carb Im using.

Thanx for the offer on the Q jets, but I think Im gonna stay away from them on this project. The q-jet works great on my 500, but it's a bit much for a 305.
