I have a 86 Buick Regal Limited with a 307 and 200-4r. My emission took a dump, and I want to convert away from the electrical Carb and go a bit old school. The reason for my change is my fuel range. I am getting just over 100 miles per tank, and this sucks more then normal. I do plan to swap out the motor in the future but no where near it because I have a kit car build to finish and my 442 is next before I get to my daily. I heard the 307 is a Olds motor and purchase a Vacuum advance distributor from summit racing and looking for a carb that won't take too much out of pocket. I need to get a lock up converter kit and seams way too many options when it comes to this kits. Anyone have installed one themselves and found to be easy to install and works great? Anyone feedback would be great.

Thanks in advance

What do you mean your emissions took a dump? The CCC carb gets much better mileage than normal carbs since they run less rich. Plus the CCC Qjet on your Olds is designed and calibrated for your engine. Aftermarket carbs are generic spec gas dumpers with no regard to gas mileage. Switching to non CCC is a can of worms. Are you getting any trouble codes? What's the M/C dwell reading?

100 mile per tank means you're getting less than 2mpg. You have something major wrong to be that bad.

I going to agree with Clone that on a stock 307 it will run best on the factory set up.
What ever emissions parts that "took a dump" I would just replace and you might even find some on here since when many people do an engine swap they usually just take everything emission related out including all the associated wiring and throw it away, maybe post something in the wanted section.
I am sure many people would part with their stuff for minimal cost and the price of shipping.

Actually with a 17 gallon tank it would be just under 6 miles per gallon which is still ridiculously bad, I think I get better mileage than that in my Monte even when I beat on it.
I would make sure you don't have a fuel leak somewhere at the tank, lines or pump, any stock engine that would be running that rich to get that kind of mileage would have to run like total crap.

The electronic carburetor is setup to default to full rich in case of a major failure to limp home, perhaps that is what is going on? There are some guys who run CCC on 406s.

The starts up really good, The engine doesn't run rough, Just moves slow off standing still, The transmission shift good. But adjusting the carb as much as i could, i can't get it to not run rich. I have a buddy with a Dwell meter. Going to ask him if he can help me out with it. I have a complete stock style exhaust from Walker Muffler. about 2 Years installed, from Manifold back to tail pipe. And replaced the Cat too. New plug, wires, coil, cap, rotor, Oil change every 3 months, I only do about 1000 miles in those months. Only have about 20,000 miles on the rebuild motor. I used to get 17 miles to the gallon when i commuted to work. No I don't use my regal to commute anymore. Sometimes, i wish the regal had a 305. i could of just drop a TPI in it and that would make a world of difference. But I don't want to do a motor swap.

Thanks For everyones advice. I will keep you guys up to date.

TPI has better low end torque but chokes sooner than the Qjets. If the dwell is responding rich, it means you have a lean problem, if it is responding lean then you have a rich problem. The computer will always try to offset the problem as best as it can. If the dwell doesn't move at all after warmup then you are stuck in open loop. Always check dwell at idle in Drive with the air cleaner on.

Are you getting any trouble codes? That can really help pinpoint the issue.
