Ryobi may be fine for occasional light home use.
At work with all the screw off requirements on door & windows around here, even the brushless Dewalts wear out kinda fast for us. The 1.5 to 2 amp batteries that come with most cheaper homestore versions are almost worthless to me. I prefer a minimum 3ah battery, 4 is much better even for my smaller tools like 1/4 impact ,drills, nailgun & multi master. Have a pair of 5 & 6 amp batteries that are much better for grinder, Sawzall, circ saw, 1/2"impact & blower. The fuel cell lights aren't perfectly accurate, but are really great to have.

I love my Milwaukee stuff. I bought the 18V 1/4" impact and drill set earlier this year and dont know why I didn't sooner. Buddy of mine uses the Milwaukee Fuel stuff. I dont know what the difference is but it's nice as well. I'd buy Milwaukee again.

I just reread the original post on this thread. The guy only wants occasional use, not run all day everyday. At work my cheap-ss company ONLY buys the HD/Lowes base drills. For the way they get abused to hell and back, they actually last pretty long. For my use I want the best I can get for the money. But this guy only wants a base drill.

I understand the topic here is drills, but unless you're actually drilling holes I'd suggest you look into a brushless impact driver.

Also, get the socket adapters for it

Dewalt brushless 14.4 or 18 volt with 2 batteries can be had for about $110 or so
