After 36 years my canister purge thermal vacuum switch fell apart. It is part of the emissions system located on intake coolant passage between passenger head and T stat. Operating temp needs to be 170*F according to my chassis service manual. I can't find the correct part online. I find ported vacuum switches but at different temps. My application is an 83 Olds Cutlass Calais Hurst VIN 9. This is a low millage H/O all original and I am trying to keep all original (ish). NOS parts are acceptable. I just need the correct part numbers to hunt down.

Thanks bra

NAPA is a good place to get thermal switches. They can order them by number of ports and opening temperature. I believe the new replacements retained the same casing color coding scheme so they should look correct.

BTW, the 170 degrees isn't a huge deal that needs to be adhered to for this particular application. Each switch is going to actuate within a range anyway. As long as it functions when the car warms up, you're good.

The originals up through at least 1985 had a dark red top (see pic below), but GM replaced it with the black top version of the same thing in the later 80s, not sure exactly when.

I think PVS42 (162 degrees) is the same thing from Standard, although indications say they discontinued those too, but plentiful from shelf items at some online places. They probably make the thing for Delco. Latest GM part number is 19236509. List price from GM is $23.93

The only failures I've seen happen with these is the spring inside keeps pressure on the lid and eventually the glue lets go, sending the plunger and spring and top all over the manifold, or worse, out in the street as you're driving.

Might as well get a new ported vacuum valve as well, since you'll be right there in the middle of all that mess.

GM p/n 17085929 Discontinued but you can find them on ebay and stuff. Aftermarket has them too, but if you want original...

Thought about changing it too but I'm going broke(LOL). I had a coolant leak on intake up front by ac brackets. Removed brackets and intake, replaced gasket set. I replaced the temp sensor to the computer, CP/TVS. Just placed another order at RockAuto for EGR valve and Heater control valve. They were working but the metal where hoses and vacuum line connect were corroded bad. Better do it now rather than on side the road on the Power Tour.
