Has anyone ever tried this? I'm going to take some measurements of my cutlass and some measurements of 2 doors at the scrap yard. I read a while back about people converting old belairs and other chevy cars from 4 door to 2 door with the doors and back half off a 2 door thats been totaled in the front or back for dirt cheap. My car is solid but I would love a 2 door and a solid 2 door is impossible to get under 3500 in ohio.
It can be done but it is going to be a lot of work. The only way that you will get that to work is to find a 2 door donor car smashed in the front. You are going to need to replace pretty much everything from the front seats back. You will basically have to cut the car in half and fit and weld in all the peices to make it a two door.
If you are good with a welder and have lots of patience I say have it. Or sell your car and look for a two door, that would be the easiest.
If you do decide to make your car a 2 door make sure you take lots of pics and post them here. I wanna see your car cut in half. Good luck.
I think you're better off just finding a 2 dr body and transforming all the good parts from your 4-dr...or just sell the 4-dr and get a 2-dr. You would definitely have alot of work ahead of you if you choose to go that route.
For many years I've wanted to convert my wagon to a 2-dr. I was looking high and low for a 2-dr coupe donor car.. and researched the project. It would have entailed a good deal of fabricating. You might want to reconsider this project.
im with Jack, just find a 2door. you would need everything from the firewall back because the angle of the a-pillars are different, so your 2door side glass wouldnt even come close to sealing against the 4door a-pillar. youd basically need a 2door shell to put your doghouse on. im not sure if the fenders are the same or not, i know the 4doors use a different header panel. even if you got it to work, youd spend waaaaaaay more than the 3500 that youre trying to save.
Although I prefer a 2 door, I wouldn't be afraid to hook up a 4 door either. The few 4 door G's I've had were way more solid and rattle free than the 2 doors. Dare to be different.
I'd love to get a hold of a 4 door Cutlass, Century or early Regal (already been there with a Malibu & Grand Lemans). You can even do them on the cheap with 15" Olds or Buick rallies and it will still be classy. Just something to think about before you ditch it.
