What is the RPO code for the body side molding on the cutlass?

I noticed that every other 85-87 442 I've seen with the molding has it on the rear quarters behind the tires in addition to the doors, my 85 doesn't.

according to 85 442 ( and all 80s+ 442 and H/O) data release memo's from GM to the dealers....... the door bump molding was NOT an option for that year. I do not have this document to back it up, but my buddy with a 1985 442 had all dealer press/photo/memo's about his car in a binder, and I specifically remember reading that the body side molding or door ding was not available due to the two tone paint (as well as the grampa factor they wanted to get away from in the later low cutlass sales years)

so ..............if ya got those door ding moldings on your 85 to 88 442........ they were WRONGLY added by some dealer/redneck. I would loose em big time. looks way sleeker without them
I took mine off my 85 salon, which is basically a 85 442 without the paint scheme, the day I bought it...........pics if ya wanna see

They were available.

B84-MOLDINGS, BODY SIDE

My '85 442 was factory equiped with them, but they were left off when it was repainted in the early '90s...

if there was one thing i could do to my car tomorrow it would be take the moulding off
but arnt they rivited/

thanks for the info! I have the B85 on the SPID in the trunk.

Now i'm just wondering about the continuation of the body side molding onto the rear quarter behind the rear wheel well. It seems like somewhere around mid 85 they started adding the side body molding there too. Mine is like the white 442 in the sig pic above, it doesn't have it there.

I have a 85 Supreme Brougham and it had the factory body moldings on the rear quater also. the link above cars some molding that replicates the factory ones. The factory moldings are attached with adhesive, the rivit on or screwed on ones are aftermarket and If it were me I'd stay with the adhesive ones

If I were to remove the factory moldings, would the paint underneath be damaged at all or could I just buff out the line?

There's a few risks you run by removing the side moldings...

1. The adhesive takes the paint with it. That's bad. Pretty self explanatory there.

2. The paint surrounding where the moldings were is faded, and where the moldings were is not.
Naturally this makes for an unsightly appearance and it rarely comes completely out with the buffer.
Then you end up opening the can of worms of buffing the entire rest of the car depending on how faded your paint is. Which isn't the worst thing, just a lot of work.

Unless they're falling off, or you're about to paint your car, you're better off leaving them on there.

Is that a typo?
B84 is the side moldings.
B85 is the wide belt reveal moldings on the tops of the doors.

Thanks for the info. I thought about it and decided that the paint would probably be a different color.
