Cutlass body side molding

I also forgot to add that often when cars are repainted, cheap or lazy bodyshops will actually just tape the side moldings off instead of removing them when they paint, so there would be a tape line to contend with as well.

My car has been repainted and judging by the other work the body shop did, they probably just taped them off. So I guess I'll have to keep em. Any tips on renewing them?

The B84 bodyside molding was an option across the board on every Cutlass coupe or sedan regardless if it was a base, Brougham, Salon, Calais, 442 or W-30. The molding from the factory ran down the middle of the doors and extended to the back quarter. If the back quarter is missing chances are the car was repainted and aftermarket moldings were applied or the rears were removed either because they were starting to peel off or the quarters were repaired/painted. I would for sure leave them on the car. They not only dress up the sides of the car (if factory and in good shape) but also protect from door jams, dings and dents which IMO make a car look like a POS. That and as mentioned you risk paint fade or if a bodyshop took the easy way out and taped off your moldings. If your moldings are coming unglued then clean the back of the molding and on the body with rubbing alcohol, remove any grime or old trim adhesive and install a new piece of 3m dual sided tape. This has always given me good service by doing the above on my G-body cars. Note that Regals and GP's did not have the molding extend to the rear quarter. The Chevys varied. Monte Carlos from 78-80 had a chrome lower molding that went from side to side and carried through around the wheel well. Some models had a normal molding on the doors only and newer style Montes from 1982-1988 had a lower black rubber molding.
