I have a 1986 cutlass parts car. I am thinking about cutting the top off to put on another car and i wanted to know if once i cut the top off will the car still be able to be pulled to the scrap yard with a tow bar because i was told that the car would cave in, honestly i dont care but i want to be able to steer it as my dad pulls me 2 the scapper and i also want to now where should i cut it to be able to use it on another car

It has a frame it will hold up to one trip to yard . And then some

Cut top off way low in back (Door height) and just below mounting at cowl in front (Just take extra around cowl so got what need) the once you grind paint off will see seams .That way you can get rid of car asap. I replace them in stock seams . But someone will chime in as where best to put them back together

the ar will be totally fine with no roof

i would cut it off the same way 455 rocket did it because that would give you plenty of room to do the work no matter how you decide to go through with a roof swap. from what i've heard the way he did the roof swap is the correct way to do the job

Thanks brother. That Hanker doin the cuttin knows his sh*t. I couldn't have done this car without him. He did all the work on my T/A too.

On my car I found it far easier to to just sawzall through the donor roof at the A/B/C pillars as low as possible and keep the roof intact.

Then I went about removing the original roof skin on my car by drilling out all of the spot welds in the window channels and burning out the lead at the C-pillar.

Once the skin is free it will just lift off and you can repeat the process on the donor roof. Then just transfer it's skin onto the car's frame work and start spot/plug welding it on like the factory did.

By doing it this way you don't have to worry about taking a ton of measuremens to make sure you install the new roof in the same location as the old one.

Here's mine with the original roof removed:

And the donor roof welded back in place by a friend of mine:
