And what the heck is that for? A cruise ship?

If you're thinking of putting some sort of big block in your cutlass then it can be done.
If you're wondering more so about cubic inches and how much power the stock drivetrain can take then that's a different story.

Bingo! Its for some kind of ship.

haha thats a kick-*ss crank. talk to a ford guy an he'll tell you he took that out of his 5 liter  im just curious overall if anyones ever threw a 502 or even bigger in one. do you know roughly what the stock cuttys trans and diff are able to handle? 350 maybe?

hey 307 regal, did you put the 307 in there? i had a 84 regal that the ******* that owned it before me blew the turbo 3.8 towing a big camper and threw in a 307. did they ever come stock with em?

Didn't put it in myself. Came stock. Depending on year and location, some came with the chevy 305 and others came with the Olds 307. At heart my Regal is just a stock Cutlass with better suspension and Turbo Regal badges. It may not be as cool as a turbo 3.8 (which I'd never tow a camper with  ) but the 307 is a good reliable V8 that should last me until I can do an engine swap.

As far as handling horsepower goes, it's been too long since I've looked it up but I think it could handle at least 300. It can be upgraded to handle more though. I've added a good shift kit and I'm going to be installing a 7.625 limited slip with 28 spline axles (thanks to a guy here on the forum). After I'm done, I'm sure my drivetrain could handle easily 350hp (if only I had something other than a VIN Y 307... ) If I were you I would at least put in a shift kit. I'm sure somebody here had to have thrown a 502 in their car but a lot of times guys will just throw in a TH350 3speed with the "new" engine. The 200-4R OD trans is a great trans but you have to strengthen it a bit when you start throwing monster torque and horsepower at it.
