Just curious how many people here use their G-Bodies as daily drivers.

I've had my '85 Grand Prix since 2001, and it's seen quite a bit of action. I'm a social worker, so aside from just going to work and back, it often takes me to and from my clients' homes and, on a few occasions, has even transported the odd client here or there (though I'd rather use a state van for that).

I occasionally feel a little bit guilty about driving a 22-year-old car as if it were new, but at the same time, I can't justify owning the thing if I'm not going to drive it. I figure that I want to get another two years out of her, and then take her off the road, tear her down and do a complete (re-)rebuild. Plus, if anything DOES go wrong in the next few years, the car is such that it is (relatively) easy to fix.

Just in maybe the five miles around where I am, I know of quite a few G-Bodies that are being used as daily drivers. There's a guy with an '87 Monte Carlo SS that is in slightly worse condition than my car, that he uses every day. There's a woman with an '86 Cutlass that is in pristine condition, and a guy with a '76 Cutlass that, though it has historic plates on it, gets driven every day.

There's also an '86 Grand Prix that I see constantly driving around, an older '80 Grand Prix that some kid owns and there's an '80s era Malibu that's always parked down by the Stop and Shop.

Now, either central New Jersey has an unusual concentration of daily driven G-bodies, or this is the theme all around. So I figured I'd ask and see how many of you actually use yours as a daily, utility car... and maybe make me feel less guilty about putting more miles on mine.

Daily driver: White 1998 Nissan Frontier king cab with the KA24DE DOHC 4 cyl, 5 speed and 274,980 miles on it. It sees 80-120 miles a day-every day as a pizza delivery vehicle. I drive 45-50k a year.

G Body: in pieces now. but will be too nice to deliver with when done.

Currently shopping for a new delivery car to add to the collection. Will be diesel powered and probably a 1982-85 Mercedes Benz W123 Chassis 300D turbo diesel with a 4 or 5 speed swap or a VW TDI 5 speed Golf or Jetta. All depends on price. The V Dubs are cool because they get over 40 mpg city and around 50+ highway, but they are pricey. The Benz will never die--ever-- but is not as good on gas..err...diesel ( or fry grease!)

Car is a driver but not a daily driver. I drive an 04 taurus for my daily needs however the car is going to make a trip to wisconsin next summer and many other car tours

she's a driver but not a daily, at least in the summer. 1 flake of snow and she's done!.

i drive my cutlass calais everyday right now, i hate doing it but i have not rebuilt it yet so i dont know that driving it everyday is a big deal except for the salt on the roads. my regal in the garage torn down to absolulty nothing will never see the winter ever. i see some g bodies in town being driven daily and they are for the most part either beat into the ground on extremely nice but there are not many of either one really. i have went for months wondering if any still exists in my area which is omaha nebraska and this is by no means a small city. if you go to the north side of town there are alot more just because of the people in the area, those people are usually doing terrible things such as 26" wheels or hydrolics or something.

I just got a G for driving, my other one has been in pieces since 1992. I only drive the 81 Monte when the roads are clear, and drive my 91 4x4 Astro van the rest of the time. I hope to roll out the 85 this summer....

drive it

i have owened my 86 ss for 21 years it has alot of miles on it and i have had alot of fun with it! now that i'am retired i don't get to drive it as much. i've been working on it on an off for the last 10 years. new motor ,new trans new rear axle housing an all the stuff to make it run like it was built for !! now it's more fun than ever to drive . it has all ways stumped me why some one would put so much time and money in to a car and not drive it!!!!
