Just curious how many people here use their G-Bodies as daily drivers.
I've had my '85 Grand Prix since 2001, and it's seen quite a bit of action. I'm a social worker, so aside from just going to work and back, it often takes me to and from my clients' homes and, on a few occasions, has even transported the odd client here or there (though I'd rather use a state van for that).
I occasionally feel a little bit guilty about driving a 22-year-old car as if it were new, but at the same time, I can't justify owning the thing if I'm not going to drive it. I figure that I want to get another two years out of her, and then take her off the road, tear her down and do a complete (re-)rebuild. Plus, if anything DOES go wrong in the next few years, the car is such that it is (relatively) easy to fix.
Just in maybe the five miles around where I am, I know of quite a few G-Bodies that are being used as daily drivers. There's a guy with an '87 Monte Carlo SS that is in slightly worse condition than my car, that he uses every day. There's a woman with an '86 Cutlass that is in pristine condition, and a guy with a '76 Cutlass that, though it has historic plates on it, gets driven every day.
There's also an '86 Grand Prix that I see constantly driving around, an older '80 Grand Prix that some kid owns and there's an '80s era Malibu that's always parked down by the Stop and Shop.
Now, either central New Jersey has an unusual concentration of daily driven G-bodies, or this is the theme all around. So I figured I'd ask and see how many of you actually use yours as a daily, utility car... and maybe make me feel less guilty about putting more miles on mine.
