I have 2 g-body cars , 1 is a 81 cutlass supreme 3.8 that is currently off the road , 2nd is a 86 SS Monte that I drive as my own personal transportation , winter or summer . had it resprayed couple yrs. ago and still looks presentable for now . Don't drive much in the first place so although it does stay in service all yr. long it doesn't get all that much use . ....later.

Currently I drive my '02 Grand Prix. My Monte was my high school car and will never see regular service again. It Never left me stranded once though. Its the only car that I have that has never left me stranded (so far).

i have owened my 86 ss for 21 years it has alot of miles on it and i have had alot of fun with it!

My GP's got 148,000 miles on it; it had 89,000 when I got it in 2001. The engine (rebuilt from a Monte SS) has maybe 45,000 since it was rebuilt. My philosophy has always been that mileage doesn't mean anything if the car is taken care of... and even less if you're willing to work on what does eventually go wrong.

it has all ways stumped me why some one would put so much time and money in to a car and not drive it!!!!

Exactly! I'm not trying to have a show car... I'd like it to look nice (which is hopefully should, once I find doors and get it painted), but otherwise... I can't justify putting the money into it if I'm going to keep it in a garage for months at a time.

I use my '81 Malibu wagon daily from April through October, and the Tacoma during the winter. PA road salt is very corrosive, thus I don't want to expose the Malibu or LeMans to it.

I'm in Jersey, so I know allll about road salts. I think I wash this thing more in the winter than I do any part of the rest of the year. I'm super paranoid... two summers ago, I found out just how corrosive road salts can be when the floor pan in the passenger-side back seat rotted out. I have since replaced it, and I'm ultra-anal about keeping the rust in check.

Daily Driver & Road Salts

my 84 is not my daily driver, but i do take it to the gym some nights, and cruise around on oddz and endz on the weekends, too. right after the new year she's goin in for her bodywork...

my daily is the 07 SS. so much fun to drive...
except when BEHIND THE SALT TRUCK!

my friends are still crackin up cause i told them how i flipped out,
tried to get WAY behind him...got stuck at a light next to him...
he turned the salt SHOWERS back on... all the cars around him got sprayed. the friggin road wasnt even snowy. it was a milder night, near a BIG mall....and this clown was bombarding us with rock salt. some hit my fender and i raced up next to him, laid on the horn and flipped him off.

very immature of me, i know... funny story NOW...
but im very anal about the montes.

HAHHAH!
good grief.

To each his own.

While I do drive the Grand Prix much more often than I drive the Monte I do get my use out of the time and money spent. By letting it set when the weather gets bad I actually get more enjoyment out of the car when I do drive it. Plus the Grand Prix is a much nicer car as a daily driver (in my opinion). It gets twice the milage, has a better stereo, HEATED seat 🙂 (along with other nicer creature comforts) , and it gets around way better in the snow.

As long as there is snow on the ground I will not subject it to another winter road. The bodywork is going to be expensive as it is. 🙁

Mine is a daily driver, but I bought a saturn that gets about 33 mpg that i try to use more just to save money that i can put into my car. Being at school though, i drive my cutlass just so i can show it off and im only about an hour away from home. But i prefer driving my cutlass just because its a blast to drive and the looks i get when drving it. Just very glad that i dont have to deal with salt and ice down here
