Bought this 79 last year with the intent of using it only as a daily, and fell in love with it. Sold the other project, and drove this to work with open headers, flashy grille and all that bullshit until I blew the original 305. Found this derby 350 locally for dirt cheap and did my first real swap (real because v8). It's been a huge learning experience. Right now it's sitting waiting to get the trans pulled out and me to install a new flex plate.
Crate block 350
RHS 202 cast iron non egr heads
532/522 106lsa solid cam
Full roller rockers
I need to put a better manifold on it. Also need to upgrade the ignition, what are some suggestions. When I rev up, it gets hesitant around 5500, and when I let off it misfires on the way down. I know the hesitation is from the manifold too, but ignition wise what can I do?

Probably shouldn't be free revving it that high anyway. Sounds like you've got way too much cam for the intake and carb. You have open headers basically so you will hear all kinds of noise decellerating. Most hei's aren't meant to be revving past 5k anyways.

Those single chamber mufflers do a lot over just an open header. Flow is a lot better. It was topping out around 5500 in gear on the road, I'd never rev that high out of gear. What ignition set up could I run, along with a better manifold, to get my revs higher? Cam is designed for 3k-7k, and the motor will handle it. I've got a 750 on it, over 100cfm bigger than the previous carb that ran the motor. Gonna get an edelbrock air gap rpm as soon as I can. I like that it has coolant flow in the back, most manifolds don't.

All I an say is what the absolute f*ck. Did the P/O do that?

What in the hell is that stuff on the fender?????????

Yeah rpm air gap has two coolant passage bungs that I'm gonna run to each other. Most manifolds I've found just block off coolant flow in the back. It gets to 120 degrees or more where I live so I need the flow. If not edelbrock, what do you suggest? Also, I'm not going to spend ridiculous money on a manifold when edelbrock is tried and proven and about $270

hello ,
that wagon is so over the top ,it's awesome .

so where do you live ?

The fender all garbaged up is the previous owner. The car was flawless when he bought it, and somehow he managed to damage then destroy both panels, and damage the header panel. Instead of fixing it I just left it, helps with the theme of the car. Until I can find a clean, straight, and nearby header panel, I won't replace the fenders.
