Hey now,

I am about to pull the trigger on a Dana 60 from Strange Engineering (they call it an S60). Anyone running stock brakes on a Dana 60 in a G-Body or on an S60 in particular?I am aware that Strange will send me the assembly with brakes, but to be honest, Id rather keep that cash in my pocket now and upgrade the fronts and rears simultaneously at another time. This warm(er) weather lately has got me itchin' to break the car out storage, they cant sweep the roads soon enough.

As always any help and information is appreciated.

I just installed an S60 from Strange Engineering over the weekend. I could not be more impressed by craftsmanship and attention to detail that the guys over at Strange put into their product. My only regret is that I did not order the S60 with brakes from Strange, had I done that, I would not be in the pickle I now find myself in.

I had originally intended to run stock drum brakes (new brake assemblies from NAPA) with the S60. To accomplish this Strange manufactured the housing ends as a 12 bolt special with 2.810 brake offset and informed me that I will have to drill out 2 more holes in the brake backing plate to accept the bolts to which a retainer clip is fastened which keeps the axle and bearing inside the housing. Simple, right? Once I accomplished that this past Saturday it was then clear that in order to clear the sealed wheel bearing, the hole the axle passes through in the backing plate would need to be widened to the point where there would not be much backing plate left, or holes to mount the plate to the housing.

Does anyone know of an affordable rear disc brake kit that will fit a 12 bolt special flange and have a 2.810 brake offset? By affordable I do not mean Wilwood, I am looking for a budget friendly brake option here. I understand it may seem incongruous in that I spent money on the S60, why not spend money on the brakes? Well, I do not need that kind of stopping power, given my application is just for the street and was hoping that could get by with a stock set up for a while and then upgrade the fronts and rears simultaneously later on when my budget can fit that sort of expense in.

Ive called and searched the usuals...Jegs, Summit, Google. Not much help. I am reaching out to the G-Body gurus to point me in the right direction or make my eyes see something that they have not.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Anyone running Chevy s10 or Blazer rear disc brakes on their G-body? If so, did you have to relocate the lower shock mount to make room for the caliper?

Don't all respond at once...

i'm running some c6 caliper/ ls1 abutment bracket and rotors on my 8.5 GN rear axle, I did have to relocate the shocks and fab some stock cable holders and connecting clips for the ls1 park brake lever... Don't know if it would work with the s60 rear though..

Thanks for the reply. I am confident the brakes will fit my application, I just don't want to have to relocate the lower shock mount. I just bolted up this brand new Strange S60 and I would prefer not to compromise how that is set up. I have done some research watching videos and reading forums and apparently relocating the shock is not that big of a deal and pretty common, however it is the principle of it that bugs me.

A friend of mine installed S10 brakes on his cutlass and did not have to move the shock, hopefully I have the same luck, given that the S60 is built to 10 bolt specs in terms of shock mounts, spring mounts, etc.

Thanks again for responding.

Yeah sometimes it's not worth the headache... relocating the shocks was not bad at all though 😀
