dash cluster

Hello. I'm a new member and need some info on dash guage clusters.I havea 1979 Monte with 355 and a 3000 stall convertor.I've spent the last 3 weeks trying to find a cluster that is the same as mine. The problem is I don't know what year my is as the previous owner swapped out the split bench seat for a set of buckets and he added a later modle console and bread box.Of corse he did not swap the sterring column and he installed a floor shift.My problem is the guage cluster that I have now has the speedo on the left and the fuel,batt,oil,and water guages in the center two along side of the speedo add the other two alond side of the tic tach( tach with clock at bottom of tach face). I have the headlamp switch below the speedo and the wiper switch below the tach. the wiper switch is a horozonal slide switch. Can anyone tell me what year this is so I can find another one, as mine is not working.Any help would be appreciated.Thank you!

It sounds like the stock gauge cluster used in Montes 78-81 with the possibility of the tach replacing the clock. Some Malibus and El Caminos had these also but most had the sweep style gauges with a long rectangular speedometer in the middle. If your speedometer is working and rest is not, check the connector at the lower right hand side of the cluster to see if it is seated. To do this you can either reach up behind the dash and can feel a rectangular connector, try to move it to see if the gauges move or not. The other is to remove the cluster from the dash. This is a common problem on Montes.

Thanks for the info,my problem is that the previous owner replaced the cluster with the current one and he
broke quite a few tabs.I just wanted to replace it.I have not seen another one like it

Periodically check EBAY. A better idea may be to take a photo of it and post it in the 'wanted' section of the classifieds here on GBF. Theres a good chance someone has one and is willing to part with t.

I phone to theforum. I'm n ot very computer savy. I have seen many for sale but the wiper switch is always different and since I don't know what year the cluster came from I'm sol.
