Daytona 500 Sunday

I will probably watch some of it too , its just not the same since Earnhardt died period ! Went to my first DAYTONA 500 IN 1979 . You know back when it was Winston cup ! , and bush series , and the Bud shoot out !
Probably won't, just hasn't been of any interest to me since my favorite drivers retired. Guys like Terry Labonte, Ricky Rudd, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace etc.
All of those men were good race car drivers , and genuine nice people for the most part . I went down and sit in Richard petty,s car after the race , talked to Person , and Gant , back when the drivers would stay for the 3 or 4 hours after a race to talk with fans , Those days are forever gone !
going to watching from work and in 2 weeks will be in Vegas for the races and I also drive to both kansas races 12 hours straight south of Winnipeg
I was a NASCAR fan since the 70s when I could only catch a race here or there interwoven with women's figure skating or olympic track and field on Wide World of Sports. Once we got cable TV, I've been following the sport regularly since the 1987 season. In more recent years I've not been happy with the parity rules, the stage points and the playoff format. But I still follow it, though not as religiously.
However, I ALWAYS watch Daytona. It is the only race I watch live all season. My Dad and I hang for the afternoon and watch it together. Then in the evening we celebrate his birthday. 83 this year.
All the other races, I record on the DVR and blast through them later that evening usually after I've already heard who won.

Haven't really watched it since they went from "semi-production" type cars to thingy cars & everything but automotive sponsership. Really miss the '80's races which was kinda the last of the real cars.
