Akron, Oh.
I started building on my 86 cutlass and found a bunch of rust. So i went looking on Craigslist for donor cars. thats when i came across a 84 regal with low miles for 400, no engine or transmission. Well the thing is, the potential donor car has alot of potential. solid floorboards mainly surface rust.. basically the car is in better condition than mine. so i'm asking, what should i do? should i keep going with the olds, or drop the olds for the buick. thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

i like the look of the mid 80's regals over the cutlass so i say go buick!

yeah. common sense is telling me to use the regal. i really like the body lines of the cutlass though.

common sense is good. lol

Logic and cost dictate the Regal. Rust will destroy your budget and takes a lot of time to fix right. Even if you do it right, it will still come back ( I just found some bubbles on my Cutlass today and the paint isn't even 6 months old). These cars are not worth enough to justify fixing up a really rusty one as the cost difference between a good one and a bad one is far less than the price of repairs.

you're right... but on the other hand i do own a nissan and toyota.

I drive a Nissan every day. Just look for a better Cutlass then if that's what you want. It will be cheaper in the long run. MUCH cheaper. Plus, your time is worth something. Wouldn't you rather be driving the car instead of cutting and welding on it?

yeah. thing is its not within my budget to get some of the nicer cars here in ohio. i'm gonna get the regal regardless. its just me being attatched to the cutlass. i've had it for about 3 yrs now and 2 1/2 of those yrs the car has sat in my garage rotting away. sentimental stuff. I also am trying to focus on 1 direction. ( When i saw regal first thing i thought was v6 turbo.)
