Well, you may not want me to be your airplane mechanic but for a rag tag 79 Malibu wagon, I'll do.

The drivers door hinge had a bad detent roller and the detent lever was also coming loose at its pivot attachment. So, I dug into my jerry rigging mind and came up with ideas. The plan worked and the detent roller now works good. Here's the steps I did.

1. Remove hinge, place on vice and pound detent lever rivet thus expanding it and tightening up the attachment. Not like new but much better.

2. Pry the roller off the pin and discard remaining portion of failed nylon bushing.

3. Grab a simple nylon bushing and modify it to fit around the roller pin. I cut it with a razor knife several times until it was about the perfect size.

4. Test fit the new bushing in roller. Although, for installing the bushing has to be around the pin first, then you slide the roller down over it.

5. Slide roller down over pin with bushing wrapped around pin.

6. Make a retainer by cutting and grinding a gap in a steel washer.

7. Crimp the washer around the pin to hold things in place.
